Two arrested for attacking Buddhist monk in temple


Two people have been arrested on June 2 for attacking a Buddhist monk at Panchhari, in Khagrachhari district. The arrested are Mohammad Joynal Abedin(30) and Mohammad Zahidul (28). They both are from Shantila village in Panchhari.

On 31 May, at midnight (around 12.30 am) the two assailants intruded into the temple by breaking door and attacked the monk with sharp weapons and iron rods and looted TK 1 lakh of donation money.

The victim is Agrajyoti Mahasthabir (47), principal of Pujgang Praggya Sadhana Bana Vihar.

The day of the incident, on May 31 (Monday), the locals filed a case at the Panchhari police station accusing six unidentified people and called for a rally to protest against the violence.

In this connection, the police arrested the two accused from Panchhari on June 2. The detainees admitted the truth of the incident in the initial interrogation of the police.
