Tufan's Artbin: a distinct platform representing indigenous communities of Bangladesh

Indigenous people of Bangladesh have never been able to practice their rights properly before or after Bangladesh became independent. They have always been neglected from the basic human rights. There has even been a time when they have had to leave their lands and be displaced. As of the Kaptai Dam which displaced hundreds of thousands from their ancestral lands, with devastating consequences. Due to which indigenous rights concerned people are constantly fighting to ensure their rights.

One of such activist is trying to raise voice in an exceptional way. He portrays indigenous culture, heritage, subsistence, loss of lands, indigenous peoples’ eviction on the name of tourism, their sufferings, rights of indigenous women etc through his digital artworks to show support to his people and to represent indigenous peoples’ circumstances. He even highlights awareness-raising artworks such as preventing child marriage in indigenous communities, providing adequate education to indigenous children and good health awareness etc. The name of his platform is “Tufan’s artbin” a Facebook page where various atrocities are portrayed that take place in the territories the indigenous people reside and with the indigenous peoples of Bangladesh through his artworks. It is managed by Tufan Chakma, a Fine Art student of University of Jahangir Nagar. He started this initiative on 20th November, 2020.

He is a renown artist to the indigenous peoples because of his tremendous artworks. One of his paintings was even exhibited on 2019 at “Paharer Rongin Sanskriti” organized by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Bangladesh Artists Forum. “Peep of The Red Culture” is the title of the painting which highlights the impending dangers of indigenous peoples’ future generation in red.
