Sanjeeb Drong : a voice for indigenous people.


Sanjeeb Drong is a renowned individual who is greatly known both to the hill and plain area people. He is mostly cognizant for his works and writings connecting with the rights of indigenous communities.

He was born on February 6, 1966 in the Songra village of Haluaghat upazila near the bank of Menneng river. He belongs to the Garo community. He finished his secondary education from Bandura Holy Cross High School and higher secondary from Ananda Mohan College. Also, he passed his bachelors and masters from University of Dhaka on the subject of Accounting.

At present, he holds the position of General Secretary at Bangladesh Indigenous Peoples Forum. He also has been an human rights activist for more than 20 years. Other position held by him are : an Expert Member of Parliamentary Caucus of Indigenous Peoples, Editor of Indigenous Magazine and more.

Sanjeeb Drong is one of the most popular writers at present from indigenous community who has been writing uninterruptedly and doing his researches regarding statistics, the rights of different ethnic groups including the Garos, the Santals etc. He has gained enough popularity for his works. Also, from time to time, he is seen on the national TV talks shows discussing about contemporary issues regarding the Hill Tracts and the plane surface. He has been performing his acts very valiantly all the time and raising the voice with respect to the indigenous issues.His writings consist the youthfulness about the indigenous societies and his critical thinking has broadly attracted the people’s attention for which he’s praised.

Another identity of his is, he is a known prolific columnist writing on newspapers about several matters and discussing about the contemporary issues in several times. Other than that as well as delivering speech in various adivasi meetings and committees, his books includes the thought and research about the indigenous societies residing in Bangladesh. His books are: “Ami Jibone Jibon Melabar Kotha Bolechilam”, “KochpanaRangamati” “Dhoritri Amar Noy, Amiy Dhoritrir” “Adivasi Meye” and “ Ganatanra, Sushasan O Bangladesher Adivasi” and more.
