“Petuk couple”, one of the very much known YouTubechannels in Bangladesh we all have heard of. It’s a channel about food blog where you can find reviews about foods. They also talk about many food recipes as well as share their travel vlogs connecting with the viewers. Having more than 5,30,000 subscribers on YouTube channel and about 1.3 million followers on Facebook, the Petuk couple has gained much popularity that they deserve. On the other hand, talking about a unique restaurant situated in Mirpur, Dhaka named “Hebaang” is another well known authentic Chakma cuisine which introduces the customers about the traditional foods and culture of the Chakma community.

Hebaang” started it’s journey on online in the year of 2017which was later made into a restaurant in 2019. Hebaang means something that is cooked jugged or which is to boil or stew something covering by container. It’s a well known word for the tribes in Chittagong Hill Tracts. Entrepreneur Priyanka Chakma, a former student of University of Dhaka started it’s journey by delivering foods from home to home with the purpose to make it introduced to the people in Dhaka which of course also liquidate the thirst of the tribes living there for the purpose of study or jobs.

Not a very long ago, the awesome summation took place when Petuk couple dropped a video named “চাকমাদের পাহাড়ি খাবারযখন ঢাকাতে HEBAANG” on their channel visiting the Hebaangrestaurant which melted the hearts of the audiences showing interest and respect to the cultural food of Chakma society. The affection towards the foods was visible throughout the whole time and it was very amusing to watch.

The boiled cabbage with chilli paste can make any person go insane except for the tribal people who are too conversant with it. The bamboo chicken is one of delicious food item served there which Petuk couple opined as likeable. The unique platters consisting of the curry of snails and bamboo shoot and fried crabs are mention worthy in this regard. They will give the customers a different flavorful taste. Traditional “Pajon” is obviously one of the loveable dishes there and it is the mainattractive dish during the biggest festival of Chakma community called ‘BIZU'. Another delicate platter named “ SHUMOT DIYE MACH” bears the culture of the Chakma’s with it’s unique glance. The couple talked about liking the dessert made with “ Binni Dhaner Cal”.

The whole atmosphere in the restaurant delivered the sentiment about the traditional foods, culture and the idea of traditional dwelling of the Chakma natives. What was appreciable in the video was the comfort and knowledge about the foods which was interesting for the audience increasing their curiosity for tribal cuisines. The friendly environment is enhanced for the presentation of the customary “ Mejang”, a handicraft tool made from bamboo which is used as a small table for the personhaving his meal.

Petuk couple has added an observable move in introducing the Chakma cuisine to the people of Bangladesh which is another opportunity for the people living in Dhaka to have a little visit toa different rack making it very appreciative. We hope to see more and more consistency from the other cultures too by making it possible to introduce themselves proudly in both national and international platforms.

Food is the way to please a person through his stomach. For the indigenous people in Dhaka, Hebaang is like a rain drop to quest their thirst for homemade food when it’s not possible to travel all the way for hometown. Not only for the indigenous people, we anticipate the restaurant to be popular among the Bengali Community too by stepping forward to the colorful Bangladeshconnecting the population with food like the couple is performing and hope to see the success of Petuk couple too!
