Mundi - the taste of food to remember forever

Mundi (Marma language) a traditional dish mostly popular in Bandarban has gained much popularity recently. The Marma community has been making Mundi for a very long time and the commercialization of this traditional homemade dish is benefiting many families financially. Due to the demand, lots of Mundi Houses have sprung up. The food connects the young people, as in the afternoon they go out in groups to eat Mundi. Alongside locals, the food now has attracted tourists and they enjoy the uncommon dish very well.

The main ingredient to make this special dish is rice. Rice is kept soaked in water for two to three days. Then the rice is cleaned and dried on a small sifter. Then powdered and made into a dough. The dough is then made into long noodle-shaped. The dish is served with fish curry, soup, or shrimps. A special kind of spice is used which increases the aroma and flavor. Pepper powder, onion, coriander leaves, lemon juice are mixed for added flavor.

Food can quite propel a person to another time, another country, another culture without even leaving the dinner table, which is why food culture is such an important way that we as people can connect and relate to one another.
