Landslide presumption, announced by the authority


The Lama Upazila administration of Bandarban has taken precautionary measures to prevent the recurrence of landslides this year due to heavy rains in the monsoon season of the previous years. The information office is urging the upazila administration to evacuate the high-risk people through miking as there is a risk of landslides due to continuous rains for several days.


However, even if miking is done for move safely, some families are safe now and take shelter in to their relatives house , but according to the locals ​most of the families refuse to leave their houses. About 20,000 people from 4,500 families are living at their life risk. Meanwhile, due to the rains, the water level in the hilly Jhiri, Khal and Matamuhuri rivers of the upazila has risen and thousands of people in remote hilly areas have been stranded due to rising river levels. And this has disrupted public normal life. The rains continued till Monday but no accident was reported.


During the disaster, two and seven unions in the municipality area were declared shelters. A control room has been opened by the upazila administration for emergency communication. Fasiakhali Union Parishad Chairman Jaker Hossain Majumder, Aziznagar Union Parishad Chairman Jasim Uddin and Faitang Union Parishad Chairman Jalal Uddin informed that high risk living ​people will be able to take refuge in educational institutions. Rupsipara Union Parishad Chairman Chachingpru Marma and Lama Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Mintu Kumar Sen also confirmed the same information.


Besides Adarsha ​​Government Primary School have opened for shelters as well as with instant dry food, khichuri and water for the asylum seekers, said by the Zahirul Islam mayor of the municipality.

In this regard, Lama Upazila Nirbahi Officer Reza Rashid said that the administration is ready to deal with the disaster. In the meantime, the administration has sent a message through miking to evacuate people who living at risk in the hills of different parts of the upazila and a control room has also been opened for communication in case of emergency. Also all educational institutions have been instructed to be sheltered; So that people can take refuge there in times of disaster.
