Furomon: A hill of beauty with the sight Rangamati Zilla

Updated: Jan 20, 2022

'Furomon' is an amazing phenomenon of love for the residents of Rangamati. It is a hill with the height of 1518 feet from where the whole view of Rangamati zilla including the Barkal upazila, Kaptai Lake and the enchanting beauty of landscape come into focus.

As Keokradong or Tajindong for Bandarban, so might be the Furomon' for Rangamati although there's much difference among the height of them but it is sure that the mesmeric view of nature of Furomon is no less than the former two hills. It is also known as the realm of cloudscapes as the clouds are seen racing in the season of winter which creates more magic in the foggy morning.

Well, the road to this Beautiful destination is not easy. You have to walk for more than two and half an hour or you may go by vehicle but that is quite risky as frequent accidents happen for the vehicles can not always cope with the road of the hillock. There's no arrangement of water or food. Very few families live there with a great difficulty of lacking drinking water and they have to face a lot of hard work to provide themselves with food although they are used to it.

Furomon is special for another reason and that is the celebration of 'Kathina Cibor Dana' every year with a festive mood. People from various places come here to gather blessing. The Bihara is situated on the main and highest spot of the Furomon which is observed by one of the disciple of reverend Shrimat Arhat Bana Vante. Generally the devoted ones go there to donate, to fullfil their wishes and to pray. As quite as it is, the place really suits the locus of the Pagoda.

Even after reaching the top, one has to cross more than 300 stairs to finally reach the peak where a big statue of Gautam Buddha is there in an another small pegoda.

But nowadays, it has become one kind of attraction centre for the tourists and it’s a matter of doubt if the footing or the intention of the Pegoda will be protected and respected both by the authority and the tourists. The locals do fear of getting snatched from the quite peace they have here which might get disturbed because of the frequent visit of tourists and them not respecting the space of the place. An army regiment is now present at this place for security purpose and artificial human touch has decreased the natural raw beauty of this place. The authority focuses on the tourism purpose only invading the privacy of the residents. However, if you have visited this sacred place of the Buddhists, it will be a request not to pollute the environment may it be by making noise or chaos, throwing wastes or by invading the peace of locals.
