CHT witnesses another protest fighting against land eviction

A protest is held today by the indigenous people under the observation of Tripura Students Forums, Bangladesh in Khagrachhari raising voice against the attempt of land grabbing and ousting the resident from their place.

Recently a complaint is raised regarding eviction from his own abode by the Bangladesh armed force for the purpose of tourism. The victim is Sone Ranjan Teipura from Punki Mora area under Guimara upazila, Khagrachhari. Including him, the complaint says other two residents named Ponendra Tripura and Taramuni Chakma’s dwellings have also been evicted. It is claimed that, as the place of his dwelling was not a registered land according to the armed force so they vandalized his dwelling warning him to sue with a litigation if he didn’t accept so.

As the representatives of the area came forward to dissent about it as they claimed the land being registered, the personnel after some days on 12 June, 2021 came with around 20-25 jeeps at 10.30 pm and attacked the dwellers by vandalizing their houses.

When protest was held criticizing this incident by the locals, the armed force again resisted and retrained the gatherings to do so. On the contravention of the resistance, today 14june, 2021 the Khagrachari people assembled against the illegal attempt of eviction from own dwelling house.

It is suspected that as recently the Sindukchari Area caught attention of the people for It’s beauty, there’s a plan to convert this area into a tourist spot for which the illegal attempt of evicting and vandalism of the dwellings took place by the armed force which is reprehensible.
