Another rape has occured on the heart of Hills. A girl from the Mro community was allegedly raped by a Bengali settler. According to sources, Mahbubur Rahman Zahid alias Kabir (35) repeatedly raped her for 5 years as he could have a false relationship with her on the basis of a belief in marriage. It occurred in Lama of Bandarban district. It is not only a case of sexual assault but also a case of cheat and fraud.
Victims family filed a case on Mahbubur in Lama Police Station. Quoting the case statement, Mizanur Rahman, officer-in charge of Lama Police Station, said Kabir had developed a relationship with the victim and raped her on numerous occasions. According to the sources, it is heard that the victim lived in a farm separated from locality. Mahbubur also lived near that farm as he cultivates Tobacco and has fisheries near the farm. They built a relationship as Mahbubur lied her that he would marry. After raping for 5 years, he refused to marry as she got pregnant. He spontaneously raped her and assaulted her sexually to drop the baby. But she refused and at last her family filed a case against him. She was sent to Bandarban Hospital for medical examination. But that's not the end of the story. He is powered by local leaders as it is said he is a local leader of Government party. It is said, local leaders helped him to escape. So it is uncertain that justice can't be done as many has their dirty hands behind it.
