On June 10, 2021, a vicious incident occurred at Bajail Barachala village in the Hatibandha union of the upazilla. A group of three people mercilessly gang-raped an indigenous woman of the Koch community.
The injured woman was first taken to Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex then later was admitted to Tangail General Hospital when her health declined. Gynaecologist Rehana Parveen said she had never seen such horrific and inhumane treatment of a woman before. She had bite wounds and scars on the face and the body; her genitals had been torn, which shows clear signs of rape.
On the night of the incident, 3 people were involved in this heinous act and every one of them were drinking alcohol. The perpetrators were Dina Sarkar(33), Montu Sarkar(30), Shabdul Mia(27). On 11 June 2021, the victim’s brother-in-law went to the police station wrote the names of the people involved, but the OC didn’t file a case. Police promised to arrest the rapists but haven’t made any progress so far.
