The culture of Tripura revolves around their celebration which are marked by dance and music. They have distinct dance and music which are very folk in nature. This music and dances shows the outburst of emotion of the Tripura towards harvest or nature.
Goria dance
The life and culture of the community revolve around Jum cultivation. They pray to the "Goria" who is the "God of harvest" after sowing the seed in the middle of April. It is an integral part of Garia Puja. And the dance, named Goria dance, is performed on the beats of drums during Garia Puja festival which begins on the last day of the month of ‘Chaitra’. This is the way to please the deity with wonderful songs and dance to have a good harvest.
Lebang Boomani dance
Once the Garia festival ends, the Tripura's start waiting for monsoon. During this period, numerous colourful insects called 'Lebang' visit hill slopes in search of seeds sewn on it. The annual visit of these insects renders the tribal youth in merry-making .And as a welcome , men make a peculiar rhythmic sound using two bamboo chips in their hands, the women run wobbling the hill slopes to catch these insects. Interestingly, the rhythm of the sound made by the bamboo chips attracts the insects from their hiding places.
